Biography

Emilia, a dedicated tropical biologist from Costa Rica, is a fervent advocate for nature and exploration. Her transformative experience in a tropical ecology and conservation field course as a graduate student reshaped her perspective on the significance of nature and its conservation. Since 2012, she has been committed to helping others forge a profound connection with the natural world through field courses and excursions.

Emilia has collaborated with numerous organizations focused on education and conservation in the tropics, engaging with high school, college, and graduate students, as well as inquisitive tourists. Her mission is to illuminate the intricate web of life in ecosystems, from the smallest arthropods and sea slugs to the majestic birds and mammals, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all living things.

She is passionate about demonstrating Costa Rica’s role as a model “green country” and sharing its success stories in restoration, extended research, carbon storage, sustainable practices, and basic science. Emilia believes that understanding and respecting nature through hands-on experiences is crucial, as every local action has a global impact. Education, she asserts, is key to fostering a global consciousness and responsible behavior.
